Pure souls

Pure souls

With Pure Souls, Alessandro Risuleo embarks on a visual exploration suspended between transparency and tension, between formal lightness and symbolic depth. His images evoke bare souls—stripped of roles and artifice—captured in the fragile moment where form ceases to represent and begins to reveal truth.

The bodies appear in essential postures, often immersed in diffused white, or veiled by layers that do not conceal but reveal with restraint. The aesthetic is minimal, but never neutral: it is charged with silences, pauses, and emotional interstices. Here, purity is not idealization—it is exposure. To be seen without defenses. To remain open to what emerges from skin, from gaze, from breath.

The photographs in Pure Souls echo a long iconographic tradition—from the ethereal bodies of the Pre-Raphaelites to the suspended portraits of Francesca Woodman, and even the visual language of spiritual cinema, where a minimal gesture holds the weight of the world. Yet Risuleo does not mythologize his subjects: he receives them. He listens. He returns their vulnerable humanity.

Pure Souls is a work about the soul—not as an abstract entity, but as a tangible, delicate, intimate presence. An attempt to portray what has no face but leaves traces. What does not scream, but remains.
