The Contrast
The Contrast
We live in a constant state of oscillation. Between light and shadow, between screaming silences and hollow words, between the urge to emerge and the desire to disappear. The Contrast is born from this fracture—from that invisible edge where the body becomes a field of tension, a theatre of ambiguity.
The figures stand stark, sliced by geometric forms that do not embellish, but divide, interrupt, impose. The dancer’s gesture is not performance, but resistance. There is no harmony, only precarious balance. Beauty here is not granted—it is seized, in the friction between the pulsing organic and the rigid inorganic.
Alessandro Risuleo builds a visual lexicon of opposites: masculine and feminine, light and darkness, motion and stillness. The graphic geometries become wounds, enclosures, lines of contact and conflict. There is no redemption, only the awareness that existence itself is held together by unresolved contradictions.
Like in a composition by Béla Bartók or in Fontana’s cuts, what separates also reveals. And it is precisely there—in the intersection between what breathes and what is restrained—that the visceral force of the work emerges.
The Contrast is not an answer. It is a question, suspended in motion. An invitation to step into the fracture—and remain.
